Aims of the course
This course introduces head and neck ultrasounds and ultrasound-guided intervention skills to specialists and registrars in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The number of US exams is increasing both in outpatient and surgical settings, and it can help head and neck surgeons to improve the diagnostic work-up and surgical results for patients with head and neck cancers. Moreover, introducing minimally invasive treatments (MIT), such as radiofrequency electrochemotherapy or the injection of sclerosant drugs in neck pathology, requires adequate US skills. The course is also relevant to other specialties that can benefit from using head and neck US, such as endocrinologists, pediatricians, radiologists, etc. This practical course is designed with frontal lectures and interactive sessions; hands-on lab sessions will allow the participants to develop practical skills by directly training on volunteers or patients under faculty supervision.
